The Audacity

So Webster's dictionary defines the word audacity as "a willingness to take bold risks." Example: "Her audacity came in handy during our most recent Instructional Planning Meeting."

As a Principalchick, your audacity comes in different colors and flavors. My audacity is flavorful; filled with bravery, courage, fearlessness; then sprinkled with boldness and intrepidity, topped off with valor and wrapped in heroism. You see as a Principalchick your audacity has to represent your platform in education. My educational platform as a Principalchick is GRIT: passion, HUSTLE and pereverence. Hustle is in all caps becuase my passion lies in that word. THAT word has assisted me in my current position. I had to hustle hard...I continue to HUSTLE HARD.

The flip side to the definition of audacity is exhibiting rude and/or disrespectful behavior/impudence. Not so flavorful or colorful.

Example: "He had the audacity to interrupt me, then overtalk me during our Admin Meeting."

The taste is different, huh. Not so tasteful. This type of audacity is what I deal with in my position as a Instructional Leader, A Female, Principal, Female Principal and Principalchick. The audacity of my collegues to believe that my knowledge is not as prevelant as their knowledge. The audacity to question the relevance and status of a HBCU that I attended. The audacity to imply that my education isn't "real" because I chose a HBCU. THE AUDACITY to believe that because you went to Mizzou and I successfully graduated from THE TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY and PRAIRIE VIEW A&M UNIVERSITY that I am missing some pieces. The. Audacity.

Our paychecks are direct deposited on the same day. I digress.
